Game Review

This weekend was promoted as the VFL's Propaganda Round, when teams were sent to various country and interstate venues while Victoria was busy defeating Western Australia at the MCG in front of a crowd of 40,749. Carlton and Hawthorn went to Euroa (where the attendance of 7500 is still an AFL record crowd for this town). Meanwhile, Footscray and St Kilda went to Yallourn, South Melbourne and North Melbourne to Albury, Fitzroy and Melbourne to Hobart, Richmond and Collingwood to Sydney, and Essendon and Geelong travelled to Brisbane.
In a carnival atmosphere at Euroa, Carlton's Jack 'Chooka' Howell put on a clinic, and booted eight goals as the Blues thumped the Hawks by 37 points. In Brisbane, the Bombers and the Cats played the first-ever VFL night game for premiership points at the Exhibition Ground. The match was actually played on the Monday night, after the scheduled game was postponed due to heavy rain. Essendon defeated Geelong in front of crowd of about 28,000.
