Game ReviewCarlton dominated the second half of this match against South Melbourne at the Lake Oval, and kept their winning run intact with a 37-point win.
Lively rover Greg Hardie kicked four goals for the Blues in an impressive display.
Throughout the first half and for a period in the third quarter it was rushed off its feet by a young, enthusiastic South team which did everything except kick goals."
"Much to the Blues surprise, their ruckmen - John Nicholls included found South's Elkin Reilly in great form early in the game and a bit too much for them to handle.
Around the packs and on the South forward line Bob Skilton ran them ragged..."
"It took two goals off the ground by John James in the first term to save the Blues from a lot of embarrassment in the first half."
"Carlton's steadiness under pressure, saved the Blues from being a lot more than 11 points down at half-time.
But, although it did not look good in the first half Carlton still gave the impression that it was riding out the storm and was ready to pounce at the first sign of flagging on South's part.
And pounce it did when the time was ripe. As South's exertions took their toll and its form fell away, Carlton moved into top gear and, by three quarter time, the result was a foregone conclusion.
The switch of Carroll and Collins opened up the attack, John Nicholls boosted the steady rucking of ((Serge Silvagni and Maurie Sankey, Wesley Lofts came into his own and Carlton went calmly and impressively on to victory."
