Game ReviewIn Carlton’s worst performance of the season, Scott Camporeale (4 goals) was his team's only multiple goal-kicker. The Blues were never really in this match, with Essendon ahead by 42 points at half time, and it just got worse from there.
On the upside, there was the following week’s clash against struggling arch-rivals Collingwood to come. Essendon no doubt believed that they had Carlton's measure after this game, but the two sides were destined to meet again in the finals - with disastrous results for the Bombers. Carlton fell to 10th at this point, with a percentage of 92.7%.

MilestonesDebut: Simon Fletcher - promoted off the Rookie List, he gathered four possessions and two marks wearing number 31. It was a modest start, but Fletcher would go on to play every match in 1999 up until the Preliminary Final, beginning an 84-game career that stretched to 2003.
