Game Review

Deep into time-on in the last quarter of this match (in which Richmond's legendary strong man Don "Mopsy" Fraser made his debut), Carlton defender Frank McGrath seemed to have saved the game for his side when he took a strong mark at full-back. But instead of kicking long, McGrath chose to play on and was tackled by Richmond's Bob Bawden. Bawden won a free kick for holding the ball, and his kick from thirty metres out scored the goal that won the match for the Tigers by 5 points. Ex-North Melbourne full-forward Selwyn Murray was a star for Richmond, booting ten goals.

Meanwhile, Bob Chitty was in a particular nasty mood, tangling with various Tigers including Mopsy Fraser, Murray and Jack Dyer. It is believed that Chitty broke the leg of an unknown Tiger opponent in a heavy collision early in the match.
