Wearing guernsey #29, Ian Armstrong Muller played 6 games for Carlton after debuting in Navy Blue in Season 1984. Muller timing at the club was challenging with the number of similar type of tall marking players. He would show some promise but the depth on the Blues list would make his task of obtaining a regular senior position extremely hard, this was very obvious in 1986 when the Blues recruited Kernahan, Dorotich etc. and that he did not manage a senior game that year.

Muller would move on to St Kilda in 1987 and prior to the start of the season he would receive a serious leg injury that which basically wipe out that year. He would stay at St Kilda until 1991, playing 21 games and kicking 2 goals to add to his tally with the Blues.

Originally from Maffra, Muller was recruited to the Blues from Scotch College. The Maffra zone was Footscray's and they were unaware of his presence at Scotch College. There ended up being a three way tussle between Carlton, Essendon and Richmond with the Blues winning out in the end.

Muller was also a very handy cricketer at Old Scotch where he excelled in the first X1, no doubt from strong bloodlines from his father who played cricket in both Sth Africa and England and also played first grade Rugby in Sth Africa.

Ian Muller was born in South Africa.
