Robert 'Henry' Lawson was a tall skinny ruckman / key position player who graduated form the Blues U/19's through to Reserve Grade Football. Lawson played in the Blues U/19's premiership in 1979, he wore No.27 whilst playing CHB in the Grand Final. He played the next two seasons (1980 - 1981) in the Reserves prior to being cut from the Senior list. He was recruited by the Demons in 1982 where he played a full season in the reserves wearing number 37 as well as one night game before joining, he would also play a solitary game for WAFL side Claremont.

Lawson later headed to local VFA Club Brunswick where former Blues U/19's premiership teammates Alan Hamilton and Stephen Buckley were playing. At Brunswick, there were other former Carlton players in Tony West, Malcolm Toy and Matthew Scully.

Lawson was originally recruited from Moomba Park.

He did not manage a senior game for Carlton.
