Game Review

A superb drop-kick goal from near centre by Horrie Clover gets Carlton home against Geelong.

On a sad note, Les Witto, a Broken Hill recruit playing just his 6th game, would develop complications from his seemingly run-of-the-mill injury in the last quarter and die of tetanus some 9 days later. After the tragedy of Lyle Downs only 5 years previously Carlton people could be excused for thinking themselves cursed.

The result of the match seems inconsequential but at the time was cause of celebration as it was against one of the other top teams and gave the Blues an 10-4 record. It seemed Carlton were destined for finals action but an understandable collapse of 3 losses in the last 4 rounds meant it was not to be.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 4th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 116.1.
