''Magpies just a big joke
I don't care how bad they are, or where they are on the ladder, I love beating Collingwood. I hate their supporters, I despise their players and I revel in their misfortune. It makes me laugh when I hear everyone saying that football needs a strong Collingwood. What a joke! I Iove a weak Collingwood. Sunday was almost a classic Carlton / Collingwood clash. We have been struggling a little lately and Sunday's game, coming up after a loss in such a big game as the Hawthorn game, was always going to be a delicate one. I arrived at the ground and was told by one of my mates that Collingwood was quietly confident about its chances. But after a tight first quarter, we kicked away. There was a period in the second term which saw us absolutely dominate without putting the score on the board. For about 10 minutes the only Magpie to touch the ball was the player kicking out after one of our behinds. We toyed with them, moving the ball with precision and pace and had we kicked truly the difference at half-time would have been massive. To its credit, Collingwood managed to push us out, but the result was never in doubt. We kicked goals when we needed to and just did enough, without ever being complacement, to win. Richard Dennis continues to impress. He is so athletic and strong. The dry conditions suit him down to the ground, and he loves the big grounds. Tommy Alvin played another of his outstanding games. He is a bit of a quiet achiever, Tommy. Just about every week he puts in first-class performances but manages to escape the full blooded media attention some players get. But the difference this week from last, besides the opposition, was Wayne Johnston. He did dominate, for four quarters and even though one player is never enough to win a game, he may have been the difference against Hawthorn. He is a magnificent player and a great leader. The Domiantor loves the big crowds and the big occassion, this game was tailor made for another BOG for Wayne Johnston. - Carl Toner Inside Football. ''

A contest between Carlton and Collingwood regardless of ladder positions, creates an unrivalled sense of interest. And true to tradition - not to form - the two sides fought out another absorbing battle at the MCG on Sunday. The Blues won comfortably in the finish but Collingwood could at least hold their heads high in defeat. The Magpies in fact won more kicks, 204 - 197, more handballs, 99 - 97 and more hit-outs, 21 - 14, but could not use the ball as well as the polished Blues line-up. The Blues were well served by former skipper, Wayne Johnston 28 (23 & 5), David Glascott 22 (12 & 10) and half-forward Richard Dennis 22 (12 & 10), while Collingwood received great drive from Darren Millane 33 (19 & 14), Magpie captain Tony Shaw 32 (18 & 14) & improving recruit, Brett Yorgey with 20 (19 & 1). - Footy Week.''
