Game Review

Collingwood were fifth on the ladder and playing at home. Carlton were seventh and facing a fourth consecutive defeat. A huge crowd packed in to see Collingwood lead all the way and win comfortably by 16 points. It could have been more, because they kicked 1.5 in the last quarter.

Will Stuckey scored his only goal for Carlton in this match.

Carlton's hopes, centreing on new captain William Stuckey, are dashed when Collingwood defeat them by 16 points. - 100 Years of Australian Rules Football.

"When Walton resigned his position as captain of Carlton, H. McShane was appointed in his place for a time, but on Saturday (29th) H. McShane resigned, and W. Stuckey was elected." - The Australasian

"Collins, forward and following, improved even on his first appearance with the team, and played fine football; Walsh (following), Walton, Bird, and Stuckey (back), Hooper and Casey (wings), O'Cock and Cowell (forwards) were all useful Carltonians." The Argus July 31 (p3)

"Collins the new man, was Carlton's only player who could beat the Magpies in the air, and, 'Bobadil' Hooper galloped away from Pannam on the wing, who, however, beat him in clever ground play." "(better players)....... and Walton, Stuckey, O'Cock, "Dido" Considine and Monagle for Carlton. Stuckey has taken over the captaincy from McShane , and if he abandons the latter's policy of changing the team and their places almost every Saturday afternoon, better things may be in store for the plucky Carltonians." (Melbourne Punch August 03 p28)

At the end of this round Carlton were in 7th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 46.2.
