Game Review

Ray Garby replaced Ern Henfry who was late withdrawl due to injury.

The Blues form had been lamentable. An unconvincing win over a poor St Kilda team in Round 9 had followed 5 losses on the trot.

Then, seemingly from nowhere, came the best Carlton performance of the year. Displaying 1947-like abilities the Blues jumped the Southerners to score the first 7 goals of the game and didn't let up.

Ollie Grieve was unbeatable at full-back, marking everything that came his way and making South star Jack Graham's day a misery. Ray Garby dominated the centre and added the garnish to his game with 5 goals. Chooka and Bert Deacon continued their fine seasons.

Despite South receiving more frees, Umpire Ireland was given a hostile reception after the game and had to have a police escort on leaving the arena.
Len would umpire a further 5 matches in this, his only VFL season.
