Game ReviewAlthough Carlton's finals hopes were dealt another blow when Essendon handed the Blues a six-goal hiding in this match at Windy Hill, and sent us tumbling to seventh on the ladder, our poor percentage made the situation seem worse than it actually was. In fact, as one of five teams with five wins and four losses to this point in the season, we were still only one win away from second place.
Melbourne sat four points clear of St Kilda on top, with a rapidly-improving Fitzroy third. The next four sides; Essendon, Hawthorn, Footscray and Carlton, were all still well in the hunt for a finals berth.
Geelong's Doug Wade took over at the top of the VFL goal-kicking table with 26 majors after this round, followed by North Melbourne's John Dugdale with 24, and Tom Carroll of Carlton with 23.
