Game Review

Carlton would welcome 1970 Brownlow Medallist Peter Bedford for his debut game after crossing from South Melbourne.

The Blues won by 20 points.

With Peter Jones still suffering the side effects of a thigh injury, Tony Southcombe, Carlton's redheaded ruckman made further claims for the recruit of the year title against Melbourne. Southcombe dominated the rucks and claimed 22 kicks around the ground in a great performance. - Inside Football Player of the Year.

Although they are yet to win a game this season, Melbourne gave promise of things to come when they played their best football in the last half to only go down by 20 points, after trailing by 6.7 at half time. The accuracy of Carlton forwards Mark Maclure and Peter McKenna who each kicked six goals, kept them in the game, plus their better use of handball as well as their superior foot skills in the first half won the match for the Blues. - Football Record.
