Game Review
The playing conditions were atrocious, bitter cold, continous rain and half of Princes Park was an inland sea. The heavy rain began at the commencement of the match and kept up until three quarter time when it eased off just a little. The outer half of the ground was covered in water and when the players ran for the ball the water splashed up to their heads. The crowd occasionally clapped for some good play, but most of the time all that was heard was roars of laughter. The Argus said; "The marvellous point about it was that some six or seven thousand people could persuade themselves in the first instance that there would be something really worth seeing, and then submit themselves to the martyrdom of standing out on that high bank for the sake of seeing it. A philosopher said that all men are mad in one direction, and around about Melbourne the madness seems to trend towards football."
For a greater part of the match the Blues played the crudest, basic form of football, and soccered the ball along the ground.
Former Blue Ned Bowen played for the Saints.
Carlton won their second match in a row to keep in touch with the top few teams; Collingwood with 6 straight wins, South Melbourne with 5 1/2 and Fitzroy with 5. The Blues sat adrift from 3rd spot by only 2 points. Chris Cameron kicks a goal on debut for the Blues. (He scored Carlton's third goal of the match.)
At the end of this round Carlton were in 4th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 121.3.
