Game Review

Throughout the previous two seasons, South Melbourne and St Kilda had been the only clubs that the Blues had regularly beaten. On this Saturday afternoon in the wet at Princes Park, we kept that record going by holding the Lakesiders to just 2 behinds in the last term, and won by that margin. It was a desperately-needed victory that lifted the Blues off the bottom of the ladder, ahead of the woeful St Kilda.

"Rowlands on the wing for Carlton, played a magnificent game, his great pace and terrier-like proclivities making him the most prominent man on the ground. Noonan, the ex-Fitzroyite, also shone to signal advantage when roving. His judgment and coolness and remarkable dodging were alike admirable." (Referee May 22)

So far, South Melbourne have never defeated the Blues at Princes Park.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 7th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 37.0.
