Game ReviewAt training on Thursday night coach Jack Worrall instigated a candid discussion amongst the team. Players were encouraged to come forward and openingly criticize their team mates' mistakes in the loss to Collingwood last week. A friendly critique of each man will hopefully improve the standard the team's play.
"Carlton's kicking last week was faulty. Last night a first of a series of goal kicking contests was bought off. The committee are giving a trophy for the best marksman and all the team are going for it. They shoot from an angle on either side of the goal from a distance of 35 yards, and straight in front from a 37.5 yard mark. A man stands at the mark and another in goal to prevent scoring, if possible, and the competition is carried out as far as possible under what might be called "service conditions." (Herald May 19 p4)
Described in "Table Talk" as an 'enormous crowd.'
Nippy rover Archie Snell starred for the Blues on this Saturday afternoon at the Lake Oval, as Carlton beat the Bloods by 10 points and climbed to fifth on the ladder behind Fitzroy, Collingwood, Melbourne and South Melbourne.
Carlton experiment with 'fast ruck' style of football to beat South Melbourne by 10 points at the Lakeside Oval. - 100 Years of Australian Rules Football.
The Blues used the 'fast ruck' in the third quarter to disorganise South. Carlton scored 4.4 - 0.3
"Leeds and Flynn followed, and Roland roved in this quarter, and Snell was sent forward, where he snatched 3 goals through cool, and clever play." (The Age)
At the end of this round Carlton were in 5th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 91.6.
