Game Review
Carlton lost its first game for 1955 against the Hawks in Round 2, who had lost to Fitzroy in the opening round.Carlton were 4th after Round 2, already 1 game behind leaders Melbourne, Footscray and Essendon.
Hawthorn were faster, won in the ruck and in the air. The home team played the narrow confines of Glenferrie Oval to perfection, bottling up the game when needed, and playing close to the man.
Carlton coach Perc Bentley
"Hawthorn caught us off balance and covered all of our efforts to open up the game. It fully countered our stars of last week, beat our big men in the packs, and, to my surprise dominated the aerial duels. I thought we might have got back into the game in the third quarter, but, after we had put on a few goals the Hawthorn boys closed our lines of attack and left us with no answer. I would like to congratulate Jack Hale on his side's fine effort."Best
