Johnny James was the star of the day. His devastating runs from the back line, through the centre to deliver the ball to one of the forwards was cheered by the Carlton supporters.The back-line was on top all day, and the fact that Dennis Zeunert scored a behind made the headlines of the match report. "It was a remarkable behind because he came from the half-back flank to do it!"
Kerr, time after time drove the ball into attack, Milroy and Beasy played well, while North couldn't touch Mills. "Carlton rover Jack Mills led North a merry dance on Saturday. He really turned it on in the third quarter when he was as slippery as an eel. But he went too fast even for himself as he twisted to shoot for goal - and sprawled full length. Before a North defender could lay a hand on him, he was on his feet again and booted his goal."
