After trailing the Fuchsias from the first few minutes of the game, the Blues lost all semblance of cohesion after half-time and were comprehensively beaten.

It was a day of disasters as Melbourne beat Carlton by 34 points to end the Blues run at a flag. - 100 Years of Australian Rules Football.
