Game ReviewSt Kilda staged an amazing recovery to win at Carlton. The Blues, playing fast, intelligent football, ran to an early lead, and held almost a five goal advantage at half-time. They looked to have the game safely in their keeping. but the Saints returned to the field revitalised, and, in a brilliant burst of football that netted seven goals for the quarter, wrested the lead from Carlton and held on gamely for a good win. The Saints have won rarely at Princes Park, and their victory was only their second success there since 1923. They kicked 11.17 (83), which represented their best scoring effort at Carlton since 1938! It equalled a similar score of 11.17 (83) in 1950, but that score only enabled the Saints to tie, and the 1938 score was a losing one. St Kilda's total in this match was their best winning score at Princes Park since that memorable 1923 game, when they kicked 14.16 (100) to 8.8 (56). - Football Record.
John Nicholls rucked brilliantly all game for Carlton, John James was a tower of strength in defence, and Graham Donaldson marked splendidly around the ground. Leo Brereton was a capable rover and John Benetti also did well for the Blues. - Football Record.
