In October 2009, Carlton announced that it had signed a 17 year old Peter Labi from Papua New Guinea on a two-year International Scholarship. The dynamic half forward played with Mt Gravatt in QAFL this year (the home club of Shaun Hampson) and has joined the Blues on an International Scholarship just four years after he was introduced to AFL football at school in his PNG birth town of Lae.

After a year running out with the Bullants reserves in 2010 (and interestingly without being credited a guernsey number), Carlton retained Labi as an International Scholarship player for 2011 and granted the young man guernsey 49. After a few games for the 'Ants, mostly in the reserves, Labi was granted leave away from the Club, bringing an end to a short but fascinating stint - he sure had a highlights reel...
