Matthew Neil Watson played reserve grade football for Carlton from 1999 to 2002. Watson was also used as a top-up player for Essendon reserves from 1995 to 1998. He did play a senior game for the Bombers in 1997.

Watson was originally recruited from Warragul via TAC Cup team the Gippsland Power. He was delisted from the Essendon rookie list when the Blues picked him up. He spent some time at Northcote Park inbetween stints with the Blues.

He didn't play a senior game for Carlton.

Matthew Neil Watson is not the same Matthew Watson who was drafted by Carlton in the 2010 National Draft. His middle name is Alexander.
