His full name was james Patrick Slattery Matthews and was born at Fitzroy, he died on the 19th May, 1940 at Prahran aged 59. He was recruited from Celtic and played 3 games for Carlton in Season 1900. He debuted in round 14, 1900 and in his 3 games, played in 2 wins and a loss.
