J. George "Geordie" Cook

A player named Cook was recruited from the Waverley Club in 1884.

Singled out for special mention in season 1886.

The Australasian names G.Cook as amongst the pick of Victorian players during the 1887 season, "one of the best men afield".

1887. Was one of the stand out players for Carlton against South Melbourne at the M.C.G. June 25.

"I saw George Cook play his last game on the Melbourne cricket ground. Fitzroy were Carlton's opponents, Cook playing centre, turning like a flash, injured his knee, and was carried off, and a fine player was lost to the game." (Age July 06 p6 1935)

Cook played in the Carlton vs England match at the M.C.G. June 23 1888.

Cook was named in the Second Twenty squad of 23 to play Ascot Vale at Ascot Vale. Same player?

The Bendigo Advertiser April 21, reported that "George Cook, an old Carlton man who is now residing in Bendigo is also expected to wear the cardinal's (Sandhurst) colors."

1894 May 15
A permit was granted for G. Cook (Carlton) to Sandhurst.

OBITUARY

"Old football patrons will be sorry to hear of the death of George Cook, the old Carlton footballer of the eighties, which occurred last Sunday rather suddenly. He was fine player in his day, and retired from the game in 1888, on account of a painful accident.
He was in his 50th. year.
