"Felix" the cricket writer for the Australasian in an article says;
"The famous footballer of old Carlton, George Robertson is seated in front of the pavilion with his Carlton comrade, F. Lanyon, and going towards them through the pavilion entrance is Val. Robertson."

"By the death of Mr. Francis Lanyon, which took place suddenly on July 4, the Carlton Cricket and Football Clubs lost an old member. Mr. Lanyon was a former president and treasurer of the cricket club, and had been on the committee of the football club. Born in Portland in 1850, he lived at Geelong before coming to Carlton. He came from Cornish stock. He leaves a grown up family."
