In 1951 the demands of administering a football team had grown to the extent that the position of Secretary became a full time position at the club. Previous to this the position had only been part time.
Note: In 1861, T. J. Connor (Jun) Hon.Sec of the cricket club at the time, appeared in classified advertisements in The Argus May 17th. and the 20th. in an attempt to form a Carlton Football Club.
As you can see the club was formed, but as yet it is not known if it continued, folded, or as the Carlton Cricket Club did, amalgamate with Royal Park.
See Formation of the Club for further details.
One of the Carlton founders George F. Bowen writing in Table Talk May 13 1898 (p13) says George Waugh was secretary in the club's first inception in 1861.
Perhaps Connor was secretary pro tem until a further meeting for the election of office holders took place?
