Bill Martin played U/19's football for Carlton from 1977 to 1979, he also played reserve grade football in 1979. Martin was also a key member of the U/19's premiership in 1978 which was under the guidance of former Carlton premiership winger Bryan Quirk. Martin was named as Carlton's best player in the Grand Final.

Martin was recruited from North Reservoir.

Coaching Career
 
Martin went on to coach at Reservoir Football Club, coaching both the under 18s 1983 Premiership and the under 19s 1984 Premiership.
 
Following his time at Reservoir Football Club, Bill Martin joined as coach of the Waratah Football Club NT (N.T.F.L) where he managed 4 Premierships from 8 Grand Final appearances. Martin was named coach of the Waratahs team of the century.
