The nephew of Ian Robertson, Ben Robertson was picked up from Noble Park and played 3 games for Carlton after debuting in 1992. In those 3 games, wearing the #50, Robertson kicked 2 goals. Showing a bit of promise, Robertson would switch to Guernsey No. 16 but would not be able to crack the emerging Carlton midfields in 1993 to 1994.
The 1990 Victorian U/19's championships carnival was a forum when a young Ben Robertson stamped himself as one of the players to watch from the carnival. Whilst it played second fiddle to the Teal Cup, it was an opportunity for players at this carnival to shine. The 18 year old rover was adjudged the second best player in the competition, despite the fact that his side - the Metropolitan Football League was winless. Coached by Ex Hawk and Tiger Barry Rowlings, he thought the experience was a valuable one for the young Robertson who captained Vic Metro. He had trained with North Melbourne but wasn't required by the traditionally strong young Roos and he settled back with Noble Park, playing senior football while still eligible for the Under 19's. He was tied to the North until he turned 19.
Although delisted at the end of 1994, Robertson represented the Blues in the 1994 London Match, a game where Uncle Ian lamented the fact that some of our youngsters would be delisted without being given much of a go.
In 1995, Robertson played for SANFL club North Adelaide.
Robertson would later coach Berwick with Ben McGee in the MPNFL for the 2002 season.
