Andrew Cavedon was a tall, lean marking forward and occasional ruckman who played 23 games for Carlton in between 1991 and 1994. At 196cm, Cavedon was tall enough to provide a marking target, but at times competed for position with greats Kernahan, Spalding and Dorotich.

Cavedon was also distinguished by his hair - initially long and curly, then short and spikey. He was recruited from Lalor Lions, he also played for Princes Hill. He graduated from the Blues U/19's to Senior footy.

Cavedon would wear the #40 guernsey for all games at Carlton. Despite showing promise in his debut year of 1991 (winning 3 Brownlow Votes in Round 22, 1991) and again in 1992, Cavedon would only play 1 game each in 1993 and 1994 - Round 1, 1993 and Round 3, 1994 respectively - before being traded to Fitzroy at the end of 1994 for Pick #33 in the National Draft.

Cavedon played a further 5 games for Fitzroy, all in 1995.

Perhaps Cavedon will be most remembered for his outstanding game in the Centenary match against Collingwood in Round 8, 1992 where he took 9 marks and gathered 24 disposals roaming around the ground to help the Blues spoil the Magpies party.

Cavedon wore No.53 (1990) and 51 (1989) when playing reserve grade football with the Blues.

Memories

On one game call, Channel 7 commentator and former Blue Ian Robertson pronounced Andy's surname 'Cav-ee-donn', with a strong accent on the Don. Every time I see Cavedon's name, I think of Robbo.
