Adrian Burdon was taken at Pick 62 in the 1995 National Draft, this was the Blues first pick of the draft. He was originally recruited from Tasmanian club New Norfolk via the TAC Cup Team the Tassie Mariners U/18's. Burdon only played the 1996 Season with the Blues. Burdon was an All-Australian junior in 1995, when recruited he was described as an attacking half-back who has good hands. He had just come off a great year for both Tasmania in the Commonwealth Bank Cup and the Tassie Mariners in the VSFL competition.

Burdon was the first ever Tassie Mariner drafted by an AFL club, with the Mariners fledging year being in 1995.

He failed to play a senior game for Carlton.

At Carlton, Burdon was given the unflattering nickname 'Hoyts' because it was said that when the stocky young man wore white shorts it looked like you could project a film onto them!
