1947 Carlton vs Subiaco

On Wednesday the 13th of August the Blues played Subiaco at Princes Park.

In 1947 the Subiaco club sent a squad of 25 players on a tour of the eastern states. The team will played three matches in the Riverina district - one each at Holbrook, Wagga and Narrandera or Temoro. One match was played in Sydney against New South Wales on the Saturday and one in Melbourne against Carlton on the Wednesday.

WA Team Loses to Carlton by 55 Points

Too experienced, and superior in every department, Carlton had no trouble in defeating Subiaco (WA) in a match at Carlton yesterday.

Carlton began vigorously, and their splendid co-operation and effective handball gave them immediate control.

Subiaco failed to score in the first quarter, but in the second term, in a burst of brilliant football, they took command, and scored four goals in as many minutes.

E. Rogers, Subiaco's vice-captain, received a trophy from Carlton for the best player in the visiting team.

Best: Carlton: Grieve, Clark. Balley. Garby, Redmond, Bennett, Conley. Subiaco: Rogers, Williams, Searle, Howe, Alderman, Kinsman.

Goals: Carlton: Garby 6, Turner 3, Conley 2. Sorrell 2, Redmond 2, Bennett 2, Way, Streeter, Davies. Subiaco: Lindsay 4, Williams 3, Hawtin 2, Hickey, Orr, Trenberth.

CARLTON TO PLAY SUBIACO TODAY

A fairly strong Carlton team will play the visiting Subiaco team to- day at Carlton. The visitors should provide a good game, and will in- clude Alderman, one of the State's best players in the carnival last week. Jamieson will be the umpire, and the proceeds will go to the visitors.

The Carlton team is:
Backs: Green, Grieve, Boys.
Half-backs: M. Howell, Balley, Clark.
Centres: Fitzgibbon, Carr, Comber.
Half-forwards: Way, Redmond, Garby.
Forwards: Turner, Cooper, Sorrell.
Followers: Bennett, Davies,
Rover Conley.
Emergencies: Williams, Streeter, Aitken, Lalor.

Mr. F. Bant (Subiaco) said that his club had had an enjoyable time in Melbourne and, in answer to a question, said that his club had re ceived £69 as a result of its match against Carlton.
