The 1890's: A Summary

Carlton's first few years in the VFL did little to indicate the powerhouse that we would become over the 20th century. In a competition of 8 teams - Melbourne, Geelong, St Kilda, Fitzroy, Geelong, Essendon, Collingwood and of course ourselves, Carlton were one of the early easybeats (together with St Kilda) and would come 7th in each of the 3 years of the competition in the 1890's.

We would, however, win our first 6 games over St Kilda to provide a small level of satisfaction to the fans who crossed over with Carlton into the VFL.
