Game Review
In this testing clash between traditional rivals, Richmond proved steadier when it mattered most, and beat the Blues by five goals. They consolidated their third ladder position, while Carlton fell to seventh and now needed a miracle to qualify for the finals.
Tactical ploys during the Richmond-Carlton clash resulted in the Blues' John Nicholls and the Tigers' Neville Crowe both rucking unchanged for four quarters. Nicholls had been told to change only when Crowe did, and Crowe received similar instructions! Richmond ran out winners by 31 points, with Paddy Guinane kicking four goals. - Football Record.
Carlton's score of 4.6 (30) was their lowest score against Richmond for 39 years. They defeated Richmond 4.6 (30) to 3.5 (23) at Princes Park in 1927 - Football Record.
