1889 William Mears
From 1889 Carlton team photo, adjusted
A possibility this is "Eddie" Brooks who played 5 games in 1889, may be from Aug 31st. We do know that Mears was photographed prior to the July 20th match.

1889 The Carlton team was photographed prior to the game against Richmond at EMCG on July 20. Mears did play in that match.
However the same line up except for Mears, who was replaced by Eddie Brooks, played St.Kida on August 31.
So far there is no photographic evidence of the team which played St.Kilda.
