Tom Kennedy was born in North Carlton, he was a follower-forward from Chelsea who represented the Navy Blues in a single game in 1927. Wearing guernsey number 31 on his special day, he played from a forward pocket when Carlton met South Melbourne at Princes Park in the first round of the season.
The match was a close and keenly-fought affair throughout, and Carlton was the better team everywhere but on the scoreboard. The Blues had eight scoring shots in the last quarter, scoring 2 goals, 6 behinds – while South Melbourne had six attempts, and kicked 3.3 to win by a point.
Tom Kennedy disappeared from Carlton’s records after that one appearance, and little is known about him from then on - except that he served with Australia’s Volunteer Defence Force during World War II, and passed away at the sadly young age of 61 in May, 1968. Tom was granted a permit to Brunswick in 1927.
