Game Review
This was Carlton's first match at the new stadium at Waverley, which was in many ways the brainchild of former Carlton president Sir Kenneth Luke. The Magpies were undefeated whilst the Blues stood at 5-2, coming off a caning from the Swans the previous Saturday. Carlton led comfortably throughout the first half led by Syd Jackson's 3 goals, but the Pies narrowed the gap to 20 points at three-quarter time and swamped the Blues with 8 goals in the last.
Peter McKenna was the Collingwood star with 8 majors.
Two successive losses after a promising start sent coach Barassi back to the drawing board.
