Game Review
Brownlow Medalist Gordon Collis continued his consistent form for Carlton as the Blues defeated Collingwood by one goal. The brilliant Blues centreman missed the entire 1966 season with a foot injury but returned to his best in the early rounds of 1967 season. - Football Record.Team

ZONING or DRAFTING?
This week's Football Record said the VFL will meet next Wednesday to consider Carlton's proposal to introduce zoning of country areas (without the prior consent of the VCFL) to the 12 VFL clubs. The problem has arose where young country footballers are asking for too much money to join a VFL club, and it is a problem that has been brewing for more than four years.Clubs would be prohibited from recruiting outside their zone, and a fixed transfer fee would be paid to the VCFL.
VFL Administrative Director Eric McCutcheon, after a fact finding tour of the USA, has suggested a Drafting Scheme that had worked successfully in American Football for more than 30 years. Drafting of players has also been adopted in Baseball, Basketball and Ice Hockey.
Recruits are pooled and the lower clubs have first choice of selection.
Zoning won the day, but the clubs with best zones dominated the competition, and it would take another 19 seasons before Drafting would be introduced in 1986.
