Game Review

A fairly even game up until three quarter time. Howell and Deacon turned many of the Saints attacking moves and in turn initiated most of Carlton's successful advances into the forward line. The Blues' got onto top in the third term with it's class, skill, and pace coming to the fore. The Navy Blues completely demoralised St. Kilda in the final term.

Howell (Carlton)

"Marking brilliantly, and a tower of strength in the ruck, Howell, of Carlton was the player of the day at St. Kilda. In the first term when the Saints were attacking with the wind, Howell's spectacular high marks turned many thrusts. This fine form stuck to him all day. He was strong in attack as well as in defence." (The Age May 27)

Footnote

Brilliant Test cricketer all-rounder Keith Miller played with St. Kilda, but he was forced to leave the field during the second quarter with a back injury.
