Game Review
Anzac Day saw Carlton sink to a third successive defeat. The 2 previous games had seen the Blues get off to a good start before being overtaken. North, however, started brilliantly and never let up. The Blues were overwhelmed and had very few good players.
After 6 years of success, 1974 looked like it might herald a return to struggle-street.
North Melbourne caused an upset at VFL Park, on Anzac Day in brilliant sunshine, by defeating last year's Grand Finalists Carlton. Carlton's new full-forward Alex Ruscuklic had plenty of chances to give the Blues an early lead, but kicked poorly for 3.5. North Melbourne proved to the 54,086 who attended the big Anzac day game at VFL Park that they'll be back in September when they scored a fine win over an almost struggling Carlton for their fifth win at League headquarters in three and a half seasons. - Football Record.
