Geelong dominated this match at Corio Oval, thanks to one man - their acrobatic full-forward Lloyd Hagger, who kicked 11 goals in a record-breaking spree for the home side.

For Carlton, future South Melbourne Premiership ruckman Denis 'Dinny' Kelleher began his VFL career in this game, while Jim Shanahan made his debut for the Blues after spending the previous three years at Collingwood.
