Game Review
Carlton's first game against Hawthorn ended as they all should - with a win to the Blues. This 21 point win was our first win of the year and it helped us off bottom spot and into 11th.Ex-Fitzroy stalwart Carl Keller would play his one and only game for Carlton in this match.
Both teams we yet to open their accounts, and a good even game was expected. Rain and a greasy ball meant that good play was only played occasionally and most of the match deteriorated into a scramble. It was not helped by umpire Rowe who was too technical for the conditions.
Beasy scored Carlton's first major, Hawthorn missed some easy shots, but the visitors then scored a goal. Charleston and Toole then added a couple of goals to give the Blues a handy lead at quarter time.
Dunn kicked the Blues' fourth then Hawthorn kicked a couple, one the result of a nice drop kick. The Blues then added three more goals in quick succession. The Blues led by three goals at half time.
At the start of the third term Hawthorn attacked and scored another goal. They were over doing the handball and missed a few other chances for goal. Both teams added a goal. Heavy rain then fell towards the end of the third quarter, and continued into the last term, with Blues adding two goals and the Mayblooms one.
At the end of this round Carlton were in 11th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 64.2.
