Game Review

"Carlton did not complete its team until just before the game. Five changes were made, McIntyre, Anderson, Fitzgibbon (Brunswick), Collins (Coburg), Bennett, replacing McInnes, W. Atkinson, Green, Baird and Howell. Chitty was placed in the centre, but was not happy there. He may not be able to get leave to play this week. Collins apparently had not recovered from the ankle injury that compelled him to withdraw from the team the previous Saturday. After half-time he went from full forward to centre half forward, changing places with Wrout." (Argus May 25 p6)

"Spectators at Essendon were kept excited during a hard fought game, the result of which was in doubt until the final bell. A feature was the solid defence by both sides, and players used their weight freely. Carlton fought out the issue with characteristic determination, but the understanding so noticeable in recent games between Essendon's attackers in the crisis enabled T. Reynolds to gain the goal which gave his side victory by 5 points." (Age May 25 p3)
Carlton were in front with a few minutes to go.

Lance Collins kicks a goal on debut, he was to average nearly 2.5 goals over his career, including being the club leading goalkicker in the premiership season of 1945.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 8th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 74.1.

Carlton eighth; Played 2, Won 0, Lost 2, Drawn 0, For 129, Against 174, 74.1%, Points 4*
.* The team having the bye (Carlton in Round 1) received 4 points.
