Game Review

This game was effectively over as a contest when ladder-leaders Geelong led Carlton by seven goals at half-time. The Blues rallied in the second half however, and at least prevented the margin from blowing out any further. We still wound up a disappointing eighth on the ladder, with a percentage of 99.35.

Geelong who had the finals to look forward to played polished football and were never in trouble from the first bounce. The Blues fought back a little in the third term, but the Cat's grip on the game was never loosened. Geelong's half forward flanker Bob "Woofer" Davis was best on the ground. Carlton captain Ken Hands was the Blues' best.

Carlton coach Perc Bentley

Our slight and unconscious loss of "life" was fatal to our chances I think this was cause by lack of incentive. But Geelong deserves full credit for it's victory. It's half forward line worked particularly well, and it also had an edge in many other parts of the field."
