Game Review

Carlton suffered their first loss since June 1955, this one against the Pies. Collingwood were a very good team in 1955, and sat in second only on percentage from the dominant Melbourne team at the end of Round 16.

Collingwood's team work and class was too much for the Blues. They had winners all over the ground despite the windy conditions. Carlton relied on individual efforts with Comben and Zuenert being Carlton's standouts. Dennis Zeunert playing on the half back flank gave a best on the ground performance.

Carlton sat in 8th place with a percentage of 105.7.

Carlton coach Perc Bentley said after the game: "I must congratulate Collingwood on an excellent performance in the conditions, which did not suit us. Although the Magpies had really few strong players, they had no weak ones. However, I am not too disappointed with our performance. For we were badly hit by the loss of full back George Ferry, and ruckman Bill Milroy."
