Game Review
Earlier in the year, Carlton and Collingwood had played the game of the season at Victoria Park. This rematch on the Bues' home turf finished even closer, and was almost as entertaining.Kicking with the aid of a strengthening breeze to the outer end in the first term, Collingwood kept the Blues almost scoreless and skipped away to a 19-point lead. But Carlton also used the wind effectively when their turn came, and a half time the home side had recovered to lead by ten points.
After a torrid third quarter, the Magpies were six points up - but the wind was easing, and in a grandstand finish, Collingwood held on to win by just two points. Afterwards, Melbourne’s press agreed that on their showing in this game, either team would be worthy Premiers.
Despite the loss, Carlton were still third, with a percentage of 137.2.
