Game Review

Carlton won their second game since the Bye to move back into second spot.

.* "S. Leehane, a well known Carlton footballer, met with an injury in the match between Carlton and Melbourne this afternoon, and his removal to the hospital was ordered. Leehane, in the second quarter of the match, made a brilliant run, but strained himself, and at half time it was deemed advisable that he should undergo immediate treatment." (Ballarat Courier 26 July p7)

Early End of Season?

"It is understood that the majority of the league football clubs are prepared to end on Saturday next, but that the Carlton, Fitzroy and Collingwood Clubs are against it. A three-fourths majority is necessary to carry out the suggestion that has been made, so that when the league meets tomorrow night to discuss the question it is probable that this will not be obtainable, and that the season will go on as though nothing unusual was happenening elsewhere." (Bendigo Advertiser 21 July p8)

At the VFL meeting on July 22, Geelong's Charles Brownlow suggested the season to end on 24 July (this round) with semi finals and finals to be played in the following weeks. 10 delegates were in favour of ending the season and 8 were against.
Those clubs against were Carlton, Collingwood, Fitzroy, and Richmond. (The 1916 VFL premiership season would be competed for just between these four clubs.)

At the end of this round Carlton were in 2nd spot on the ladder with a percentage of 135.9.
