Game ReviewIn an uncharacteristicly low scoring game, in shocking conditions at Princes Park the emerging Blues would win by 7 points despite only kicking 3 goals.
Carlton full-back Rod Austin played superbly in the slush at Princes Park and was an unanimous choice in the match against Geelong. Austin was well supported by fellow defender Geoff Southby who continually repelled attacking moves by the Cats in very trying conditions. - Inside Football Player of the Year.
Geelong made hard work of the mud and water on Princes Park, but the Blues were not able to score much better - 2.2 to the Cats 2.6 in the second half, but the home side had already won this game. Geelong took until the 17 minute mark of the last quarter to score their first goal and the aggregate score between these sides had not been as low since 1900. The Blues recorded their lowest in any game since their 1.11 in 1968 against Essendon, while the Cats 2.12 was their lowest since their 3.3 in 1971 at Moorabbin. - Football Record.
Alex Jesaulenko writing in the Canberra Times said that the VFL should have called off this week's round of matches.
