Game Review

This was the game when Jesaulenko coached against the Blues for the first time since the turmoil of the George Harris sacking and Jezza's resignation from the Carlton FC. It was also Val Perovic's first encounter with his old club St Kilda since he transferred to the Blues at the start of the 1980 season.

Bruce Doull was voted best on ground for Carlton in this encounter against the Jezza coached Saints. Doull repelled many attacks by the Saints whilst setting up plenty of attacking moves for the Blues. Mike Fitzpatrick showed great leadership and dominated the ruck duels and was able to provide the Blues small men with first use of the football. - Inside Football Player of the Year.

Carlton, which had the game taken up to it by St Kilda in the first half, won the day with a 42 point victory. It was the first occasion on which last season's premiership captain-coach Alex Jesaulenko had played against his Carlton teammates and he performed well until Bruce Doull became his opponent to nullify him. - Football Record.
