Game Review

The Blues would play away in their first AFL game since losing the 1993 Grand Final to Essendon. The opponent, Adelaide, had a strong 1993 and were capable of playing an amazing attacking style of football. Led by Full Forward Tony "Godra" Modra on this incredible night of fast-paced footy, the Crows destroyed the Blues to give us an early-season headache.

After an even start, the Crows would kick 7 goals to our nil in the second quarter as the Modra show switched on. His 13 goals against many opponents, giving champion Stephen Silvagni an absolute bath, was an amazing display of high marking and sneaky goals. SOS would go forward and kick a goal, whilst Hanna and Sexton would each have the chance to quell Godra.

The Blues, seemingly learning that we needed multiple ballwinners in the middle after the 1993 year, thrust Ratten on-ball who was our top stats winner with 29.

Carlton's "Six Million Dollar" man in Barry Mitchell would make his debut for Carlton in this game. The ex-Sydney star had been snapped up by Collingwood in the 1993 Preseason Draft (to spite Carlton) and his salary would be still be listed under Collingwood's Salary Cap in the deal they did to part company.

The injured and suspended Carlton captain Stephen Kernahan played a half in a reserve practice match against Fitzroy at Princes Park on the Saturday while his senior teammates flew to Adelaide.
