Attard is a traditional shutdown defender, she joined the Diamond Creek Women’s Football Club in 2008, and in 2012 played in its premiership victory. Senior women’s coach Damien Keeping says Attard is a versatile defender who can play on the league’s most dangerous forwards. “Laura’s ability to play on either tall or short opposition will be a real bonus for our team,” Keeping said. “Also her commitment to elite training standards will have a positive influence across the entire squad.”

She was drafted by Carlton with the club's eighteenth selection and the one hundred and fortieth overall in the 2016 AFL Women's draft. She made her debut in Round 1, 2017, in the club and the league's inaugural match at Ikon Park against Collingwood. Attard finished 2017 having played in all seven of Carlton's matches that season. She was delisted by Carlton at the end of the 2018 season. She was delisted with Madeline Keryk, Sarah Last and Kate Shierlaw from their primary playing list.
