A VFLW premiership star and club best and fairest winner in 2018, Van Dyk will swap the brown and gold of Hawthorn for the navy blue of Carlton. The defender - taken with pick No.21 in the draft - earned her call-up to the AFLW competition with an award-ladened campaign. Her performances in the back pocket for the Hawks also saw her feature in the VFLW Team of the Year and named the competition’s rising star.

Van Dyk played for her local club in Chirnside Park, Victoria. She trained with Carlton as injury cover during their inaugural AFLW season in 2017, which she cited as the point when she first sought to play professional football. Van Dyk joined Hawthorn's VFLW team, where she wore number 36, and played in their 2018 premiership. She won the 2018 Debbie Lee Medal as the best young player in the VFLW, Hawthorn's best and fairest, and was named in the VFLW Team of the Year in defence. Ahead of the 2018 AFLW draft, Van Dyk was predicted to be the first mature-age player selected.

Van Dyk was drafted by Carlton with the twenty-first pick in the 2018 AFLW draft, their third selection. She debuted in the opening round of the 2019 season: a loss to North Melbourne at North Hobart Oval. Van Dyk appreciated leadership shown by her experienced teammates, citing Brianna Davey, Kerryn Harrington, Tayla Harris, Gabriella Pound, and Darcy Vescio as examples. She played nine games in her first season, including the preliminary final and grand final.

At the end of the 2020 season Carlton completed a trade with St Kilda that saw defender Jayde Van Dyk move to Moorabbin for a swap of third-round draft picks. The Blues move up six spots in the third round of the 2020 NAB AFLW Draft after receiving pick No.36 overall (currently No.21 in Victoria region) in exchange for Van Dyk and pick No.42 overall.

Van Dyk played nine games in the Navy Blue during her debut season in 2019, primarily down back as a lock down defender. This year she made the one appearance, in the season opening win over Richmond. GM of Women’s Football Ash Brown thanked Van Dyk for her time at the Club. “We would like to thank Jayde for the service she gave to the Carlton Football Club during her two years with us. Jayde contributed positively to the growth and development of the playing group and program and we wish her all the best with the Saints,” Brown said.
